Alter Bridge to play main supporting slot at Download Festival

Alter Bridge announced last week that they will be playing the main supporting slot at Download Festival 2014 in Donnington Park, England.  This places them on the main stage right behind Aerosmith on the final night of the three-day event.

This will be the fifth time Alter Bridge have played Download Festival, and this main supporting slot is their best positioning yet.  The band will undoubtedly gain significant publicity out of this placement.  One BBC headline reads, "Aerosmith to close Download Festival with Alter Bridge."

In 2005 the band made their debut at Donnington Park, playing the fourth opener slot on the second day, which was shared with Ozzfest.  Here they opened for Anthrax, HIM, Velvet Revolver, and Black Sabbath, and their performance of "The End is Here" ended up on the Ozzfest 10th Anniversary video (Blu-Ray | DVD).

The following year Alter Bridge returned to Download, where they headlined the second stage on the second day of the festival.

In 2008, the band again played the fourth opening slot on the main stage.  This time they preceded Biffy Clyro, Bullet For My Valentine, Incubus, and the Offspring on the second day of the event.

In 2011, Alter Bridge moved up to the second opening slot, playing behind The Darkness and Def Lepperd on the first day of the festival.

Next year, the band will once again return to Donnington Park, this time playing their biggest slot to date.  Alter Bridge have experienced major success in the UK over the last few years, recently playing headlining arena tours including the iconic Wembley Stadium.

Donnington Park has been the home to music events for many decades.  Download is one of Europe's biggest festivals, and 2014 will mark its eleventh year.
