Wolfgang Van Halen to play bass on Tremonti tour
Wolfgang Van Halen will be covering bass duties for the Tremonti solo tour which begins tonight in Rhode Island. In a surprise announcement, Wolfgang revealed yesterday on his Twitter page that he would be playing bass at tonight's show in West Greenwich. Today, Mark Tremonti announced on his Twitter page that Wolfgang would be playing bass on the entire tour, relieving Brian Marshall of his duties. Brian, who also plays bass in Alter Bridge and Creed, has until now been the bassist in Mark's solo band, but is said to have bowed out of this tour for personal reasons. It is unclear whether this news affects only the USA leg of the tour, or the European portion as well.
Wolfgang, the son of rock guitar legend Eddie Van Halen, has live concert experience playing bass on several Van Halen tours, as well as in the studio on Van Halen's latest album, A Different Kind of Truth, which was released earlier this year. It is rumored that Mark had originally wanted Wolfgang to play bass on his solo record, but Wolfgang was unable to do so due to his Van Halen touring commitments.
Wolfgang's original Tweet appears as follows. Below that is a picture taken of today's sound check, with Wolfgang appearing on the left.
